"Trailers From Hell": or B movie heaven to the rest of us
Trailers From Hell is the deliciously evil brainchild of famous movie director Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling), collecting hundreds of vintage film trailers online - with the focus on classic drive-in/grindhouse/B movie fare - often presented by other contemporary filmmakers offering their expert commentary. Many of them are fans of these flicks, which influenced their own work. For instance, legendary makeup artist Rick Baker (An American Werewolf in London) presents the trailer for AIP's groundbreaking 1957 hit I Was a Teenage Werewolf, starring Michael Landon (not to be confused, please, with 1985's Teen Wolf starring Michael J. Fox, an entirely different animal), pointing out Landon's outstanding performance as well as the economical but effective direction by Gene Fowler Jr. (I Married a Monster from Outer Space). This was the first teenage monster film, decades before Buffy, and one of my personal favorites, so it's nice to see it getting some love. Plenty more where this came from, too.
