"Shivers Down Your Spine": quivers up your Placevine

Shivers Down Your Spine is a horror anthology web series courtesy of DeadLantern.com. There's not much to distinguish it from a bunch of other similar shows online or on the boob tube, but while it's certainly no better than most, it's definitely no worse. Its understated tone reminds me a bit of the syndicated '80s TV series Tales From the Darkside, as opposed to the more graphic thrills 'n' chills of the ambitious HBO series Tales From the Crypt, since it manages to milk a lot of moody menace out of its miniscule budget, without spilling much if any blood. The amatuerish acting is adequate enough and even lends some B movie street cred to the threadbare productions. The filmmakers obviously have a lot of love for the genre, and its shows. That's something money just can't buy, as the song goes. The stories aren't anything special, but by and large they're fast paced and engaging. This is simple but spooky seasonal viewing, and it's free!
